The Sandlot

Spring is around the corner and that means baseball season is gearing up! The fields are getting last minute touches before Spring training starts in just a couple of weeks. To celebrate this time of year I've introduced "Sandlot" inspired portraits. They'll be available year round and are easy on your to get ready for - just bring jeans, shoes, and a ball cap and I'll take care of the "dirty" shirts, vintage wooden bats, broken-in gloves, and homerun smashed balls! The players get a touch of 1920s black out technique to add authenticity to the portraits, a technique I learned from my photographer friends Pete Rezac in Nevada and Jim Trapp in California - the kids really get into grunging up!

Kaiden was my first one to give the session option a go. He didn't know about black out when he came in, but as soon as I explained the process he was excited to get "dirty". The "dirt" is completely safe and washes off with soap and water. He traded out his travel ball jersey for one of mine that has the played in look. We started with just the bat to warm up, then added in other ball related props as the shoot went on. The entire time he was laughing and having fun. When a guy is having fun taking pictures in a studio you know something great is happening! He plays travel ball, at the end we pulled out a vintage tweed suitcase of mine to play up that theme as well.
